INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

During my childhood and adolescence, I never noticed the absence of female references. When I started my degree, Architecture was located in the Polytechnic building of the University of Alcalá, where the engineering courses were taught, and there the female classmates were struck by the fact that, apart from our studies, there were very few "girls".

.

Not only I was not lacking in references, but my sister loved science, she helped me to study certain subjects and in fact, she graduated and she is professionally dedicated to it. In addition, at home, our father tried to pass on everything he knew, he took us to see the stars on summer nights, to museums of any kind, and always, always, he used to explain curious things to us.

.

In the wide range of things I liked, I would have loved to be an astronaut. One of my options was to study Physics and I was always curious about whether you can predict the movement of a balloon or a soap bubble... In my Architecture degree, I am proud to have two honours in Building Structures, and I am also proud of my friends who were great at understanding and explaining mathematics to me.

.

In my family we are many girls, cousins, and all of the same age range. I am the only one with "artistic" inclinations, all the others have opted for Science and Technology and all of them are professionally dedicated to it.

IT IS IN OUR HANDS

.

I think there were indeed no referents. But luckily for all of us, there were parents and teachers who considered us not only equal and capable, but better. Better than the opportunities they had had, and they put at our disposal everything they had at their disposal.

.

.

What do you think? do you think the society of the 80's and 90's directed you towards something you were not destined for?, what about the previous decades, what opportunities did you have?
